on their introductory minus ep, click box offers a refreshing return to a bygone era of classic instrumentals, full of experimentation and passion generated by that ongoing love affair between man and machine. berlin shades starts out in a jittery minimal fashion but soon dives much deeper as the tough electro bassline expands and contracts dragging the dancer to and fro. the cascading hook and in-your-face sci-fi synth motif add a sense of tongue-in-cheek drama to a dynamic arrangement that incorporates steep inclines, sharp drops and snaking pathways. as the short staccato bass riff gains momentum and the hook comes round for the second time you just know somethings lying in wait and the boys certainly dont disappoint. lost road is anything but a blind alley, kicking off with some low-slung interplay between a two-note bassline and a whiplash snare that dishes out a serious spanking. hi-hats fizz across the audio spectrum, cleverly pitching up and down before a drunken bass sequence ushers in the main section with its sliding, twisted synth distortions primed for surprise and immediate disorientation. once all the elements are in play, the fun really starts with so many objects of interest competing for attention. the arrangement is pulled and pushed to great effect extracting maximum effect from this tough little unit. more electro flavour to the fore as the loose, broken beat intro and robot sounds of some toys make for some slick moves on the dancefloor. the retro synth riffs and dark spiralling pads conjure up images of some early 80s lab full of computer kids in white coats twiddling knobs on huge mainframe monoliths. the bouncing bass and analogue belches make this a must for all retro-tastic electro-boogie fans. the theme continues over into voxer as rising filtered bass tones playout over another trademark click box drum pattern, this time doused in heavy reverb and delay. an array of analogue bleeps, screams and laser beams keep the motor ticking over.

kindisch is now eighteen releases old, and its mission - to uncover new talent, and to provide a platform for producers to evolve and experiment - is more passionate than ever. this time, the reins are handed to sascha braemer, aka hirtenfellner, and philip bader, who build on the promise of their releases on sup dub and get physical. >mamba drums< is, as its name suggests, a percussive, latin-tinged affair, with sweeping builds and heavy drops, layer upon layer of locomotive percussion and a skeletal four-note vamp designed to whip the listener into a state of frenzy (and sure to be successful in this aim!). a male vocal sample pervades on >thrill<, this time more gruff, more laconic, and edited so that the words become another percussive element rather than carriers of meaning. deep whirlpools of delay open up below a surface drift of jazz-tinged chords, from a minimalist sound palette bader and braemer paint a vastly evocative, effusive picture that will transport the listener, or dancefloor, to a strange and addictive place. >put your arms around me<, implores the soul-infused vocal sample on b >around<, over a yawning vista of synth chords bridged with sibiliant snares and subtle but earth-moving edits that leave no doubt as to braemer and baders mastery of dancefloor dynamics.

ziggy kinders last outing on souvenir proved to be one of the highlights of 2007. bailamos, a record destined to make love to the converging worlds of european techno and south american latin music was hailed by artists like laurent garnier, koze and mike shannon for its mysterious melodies and enveloping percussion while the a-side que pasa maria was championed by anja schneider and radioslave. fans of tiefschwarzs daring souvenir imprint will be in no doubt as to what lies in store for the label’s tenth release. >flipflop crash< is another typically ziggy workout destined for a discerning international dancefloor. disorientating percussion and flanging effects dance around an insistent throbbing bassline while a female vocal whispers in french. the warm melodies layering the track hint at the sultriness of >bailamos< , but this is a continuation not a revisitation and an impressive step forward for ziggys sound. on the flip chilean star pier bucci takes up the remix reigns. after impressing with his ahead-of-its-time familia lp on crosstown rebels in 2005 and last years club bomb hay consuelo, his addition to the souvenir roster is another memorable recruitment with current label remix talents including artists like carl craig, tiefschwarz, shonky, samim, kiki & silversurfer and radioslave. his interpretation adds an injection of urgency to ziggys original, stripping the vocals back to a minimum to make way for an epic delay soaked synth hook. its a remix destined for the end of a night or that perfect plateau of a party when the dancefloor has been moving for hours waiting for a hypnotising melody such as this to sweep it onto another level

with already massive support from jocks like technasia, valetino kanzyani, mauro picotto, james kameran and many more chris liebing is starting a new label called spinclub recordings. the first release is by spinclub resident dj emerson, already known for his releases on kiddaz fm and microfon. on this first ep on scr, dj emerson features his familiar dry techno. to the efficiently and solidly working cut the crap on the a-side, he opposes with the spectacular mr. nice on the b-side. mr nice starts off in a restrained way. in the break you could almost think it would lose itself in an ocean of delay, if, yeah if not suddenly this striking bassline would emerge. it starts rolling, turning the track around 180 degrees, transforming it into a rampaging peaktime monster. for the one who wants to put an exclamation mark in his set, voila

db aint confessing anything on this pilot episode of the new db edits series, but his edits still land on the 10 most wanted list! hunt em down, hes clever as a fox. jump out of the plane! not much is know about who did what, but the featured track, don armandos 2nd avenue rhumba band, deputy of love is a chicago mix show classic back in the days of wbmx! here we get a full extended mix, there is some 16th note repeat, delay effect and breakdowns. tops! on the flip, is an unknown disco track. db edits told us to keep diggin to find out what this is. drop us a line if you find the original artist and title. dont sleep on this one! limited quantites

the skull returns to kindisch with four impeccably sultry and leftfield dancefloor cuts. >must have back< is silky, chicaning mix of ice-cool male vocals and slick, vacuum-packed percussion that will prove devastating to discerning dancefloors, while >lalalala< is a raw, spaced-out house jam that serves up spry, bouncy congas, wobbly bass and clipped hi-hat patterns with no small amount of dubby echo and delay. >forever ever< is a wonderfully trippy slice of minimal techno, a heady bass and percussion workout haunted by the blue, smoky ghosts of jazz keys. be careful - you may well find yourself hypnotized forever ever.the mood is less abstract but no less intense or inviting for deep, reverb-laden closing track >lovesong<. an insistent kick-drum and mind-bending fx make this prime dancefloor material, but the mood of the track is more complex - wistful, pining, mindful of the past, expectant of the future - a lovesong through and through.

already supported by pan-pot, sebo k, anja schneider, kiki, karotte... simplicity is the name of the game on both tracks here. on >louder elvis<, the two unleash pure deep-house bounce over ominous, detroit-inspired pads, clean-as-a-whistle bleeps laser their way through a fog of dubbed-out delay. the tunes flow suggests a live session, with tumbling chords following their own whims, but theres nothing haphazard about it. this ones all about the afterhours, head down and moving steadily into the light. a vocal sample kicks off >radio graceland< but dont expect any bloated rock n roll theatrics. instead, van dowski and agnès lay down a slowly rolling groove with a latin touch and even a little bit of reggaetón lurch. hand drums dapple the landscape with faded colors, keeping the mood subdued—at least, until the beat gathers steam and bright, syncopated chords splash about. groaning analog noises push the energy restlessly forward, driving dancers to wild abandon: the track is as effective as it is unconventional. what else would you expect from two of switzerlands most uncompromising crowdpleasers

charles websters furry phreaks hook up with vocalist terra diva on a track signed by defected last year. the delay in release is due to the frankly staggering scope of remixes commissioned - there are too many to describe them all although highlights include the sublime version remix, the three pastaboys efforts and the quirky atjazz dub. the superb vocal takes the lead on most of the mixes and there really is something here to cater for all tastes.

incl argy remix !! tokyo s rising star ryo murakami has already put his diverse, electronic sound on the map with the >rise< ep on dessous last year, and received great praise for his track >my soul<, snapped up by steve bug for the fabric mix series, which was piled high with atmosphere and dark, club energy. his next 12 includes two new tracks, the title cut being >down the sky<, cooly influenced by old school house, but also more recent european forays into night music. ryo demonstrates a heavy aptitude for stripped down futurism, with staccato, jilted beats, joined by layers of padded synth structures, looming somewhere between light and darkness. the b side, ‚coke‘ (no questions asked) welcomes another one of ryo‘s extended journeys, this time a stronger, peak time groove which never lets off, and builds around layers of spaced out, pitching fx. brain-tingling pitching synths heat things up, before laying down a super-funk hook that melts on top of the beats irresistibly. ryo then leads us head-first into a series of spac d out, jacked-up movements, characterised by risque, feminine vocal snippets. poker flat‘s young greek maestro, argy, creates a stunning hi-tech remix of ‚down the sky,‘ complete with mesmeric dub influenced chord stabs and tripped out washes of delay. once again carrying on the vibe of the original, but twisting it into an altogether different beast, argy takes ryo‘s warm synth stabs and shapes the remix into a slow paced yet pumping club tool.

the follow up to model specific is a heavy slab of dub techno. a heavyweight bass coupled with spaced out fx, loads of reverb and delay, mad robot voices and a healthy dose of rastafarian wisdom.

new bomb from west london don phil asher..... phash continues his raw fusion escapades with this recycled and well improved reggae groove made in a true restless soul spirit. together with uk singer shea soul and mc motet of the bugz crew, phil rocks the joints on this original brentford all stars sample and reboots it into the future of cyberspace. with nice punch bits like baby girl, im looking at the front door, motet slices it up and gives room for shea soul as she melts our hearts with her smooth vocal chords. and dubbed out of his mind, phil keeps going for an instrumental dub version where it (by way of the tape delay inferno) gets the true king tubby treatment.

the title track recalls those half forgotten dreams of positivity and optimism inspired by early us house music… a nostalgic arrangement of arpeggiated synths, high string lines, analogue drum machines and a 1980s vintage, new order like stepped bassline. housemuzik 1.2,3 takes us into much dark territory, dragging a similar palette of sounds into a dense psychedelic mix of acid guitar, pitched down demonic vocals and disorientating spacial effects. dont listen to this with the lights off! fajr dub is an epic, stoned dub collage built around classic space echo delay & feedback tricks, spectral voices and a shifting synth bass pattern, all underpinned by a soft pulsing backbone reminiscent of rhythm & sound productions.
